Allegany 84, Northern Virginia 33

ANNANDALE, Va. — The Allegany Community College of Maryland women’s team rushed to a 17-0 lead to start the game, shot 67 percent from the field and played even better defense in rolling past Northern Virginia Community College.

Kacey Kahl led the Trojans (9-1) with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, while Melissa Ford scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. DeeDee Reese scored 10 points and had six assists, while Jasmine Blanks scored nine points with six assists. Shannon Wright scored eight points with a game-high 11 rebounds, and Lindsay Holliday scored seven points and had five assists.

The Trojans led at the half, 41-7.

“We did a nice job with our pressure defense in the first half,” said Allegany head coach Jerry Rice. “Our defense was as good, if not better, than our offense tonight, even though we shot very well.

“It’s a great way to go into the Christmas break. It’s just a great team win.”

Allegany will play again Saturday, Jan. 5, 2 p.m., at Anne Arundel.
