OAKLAND - Fourth-seeded Glenelg handed top-seeded Southern its first loss of the season, 34-33, in the Maryland Class 2A/1A dual state tournament semifinals on Saturday.
Second-seeded Owings Mills, which beat Rising Sun 34-26 in the other semifinal, topped Glenelg 35-33 to win the state title.
In the Glenelg-Southern semifinal, Lex Ozias kept his perfect season going with a pin of Nick Caffrey in just 51 seconds to win the 112-pound class and raise his personal record to 31-0.
George Scheffel decisioned defending state tournament runner-up Brian Marcoux 7-4 to win the 125 class and improve to 30-1 on the year. Jakob Scheffel scored a 10-1 major decision over Craig Brinzda at 130.
Jordan Skipper won by technical fall, 17-0, over Mike O'Leary in the 145 class, Nick Farmer pinned Gary Keister at 171, Ryan Bennett won an 8-4 decision over Jon Mulliinex at 189, and Sean Sisler pinned Derek Patrick to win the 285 class.
For Glenelg, Brandon Conway (119), Danny Birchner (135), Tim Chase (152), Zack Cross (215) won with pins and Zach Gerber (103), Chris Stinnett (140), Alex Hufnagel (160) won decisions.
Bichner and Stinnett were runnersup in the state tournament last year and Conway placed third.
Southern will wrestle again in the Bi-County Tournament on Saturday at Fort Hill.
