Southern defends Max Horz crown; Northern second

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - For the second year in a row, the Southern Rams captured the two-day Max Horz Invitational held at Berkeley Springs High School.

The Rams finished with 215.5 points while cross-county rival Northern was second with 188.5 points.

Southern, at North Hagerstown Friday evening, had three individual champions while placing eight in the finals. Northern was 5-for-5 with five over individual winners.

Lex Ozias (112), Jakob Scheffel (130) and Davey Sweitzer (140) captured the individual titles for Southern. Josh Duckworth (119), Jason Warnick (125), Adam Moranduzzo (135), Andrew Ganoe (152) and Dustin Stough (160) won for the Huskies.

Josh Arnold (119), George Scheffel (125), Nicholas Brant (135), Jordan Skipper (145) and Sean Sisler (275) earned second-place finishes. Kody Lewis was fourth at 160 and Nick Farmer was fifth at 171 for the Rams.

Northern's Dylan Day was fourth in the 140 weight class, Korey Kamp was fifth at 145 and Ryan Finzel was sixth in 189.

North Marion finished third (178.5), Sherando fourth (148.5), DeMatha fifth (136), Independence sixth (133), then Berkeley Springs (125), Musselman (115.5), Strasburg (117) and Hedgesville (104) was 10th. Fourteen teams participated in the tournament.

The Huskies visit Allegany tonight at 7 p.m. and will participate in a triangular with Keyser at Hyndman on Friday at 6 p.m.
