CUMBERLAND — Allegany scored two goals in the final five minutes to come from behind and steal a 2-1 victory from Southern Saturday at Greenway Avenue Stadium in the opening contest for both schools.
Neither team was able to get on the board in the first half, but Bryan Wilkinson took just 39 seconds in the second half to put the Rams on the board. Jasper Tasker was credited with assisting Wilkinson.
After a 35-minute drought where neither team did much, Allegany knotted the score on an unassisted goal from Adam Boorer. Sam Hofacker proved the game-winner exactly two minutes after Boorer got his goal.
The Campers controlled the ball for most of the evening, taking 23 shots to Southern’s six. Allegany keeper Ryan Marchini finished the day with two saves, and Cory Murphy had 11 for the Rams.
Allegany won the jayvee 5-0. Brooke Knieriem had five saves in the shutout, while Corey Knipple scored two goals. Derek Fuller, Breyer Hillegas and Mike Bise also scored for the Campers.
Allegany will play on Saturday afternoon against at Bishop Walsh.
Fort Hill 4
Hampshire 1
ROMNEY, W.Va. — Fort Hill Brad Tyler and Josh Borland had all of the offense for Fort hill during the Sentinels season opening win over Hampshire Saturday in Romney.
Borland scored the Sentinels’s first half goal at the 22:15 mark, and Jeremy Yarbrough got the Trojans’ point at the 8:25 spot of the first half.
Tyler scored two straight goals to get the second half rolling, getting the first on a header at 37:05 on a throw-in from Derrick Parker, and then two minutes later on another assist from Parker.
Andrew Amoruso assisted Borland at 14:53, and finished out the scoring.
The Sentinels led in corner kicks (9-3) and in shots taken (18-10). Dan Johnson made eight saves in the win, and Josh Vickery made six for Hampshire.
Cullin Brown had both goals during Fort Hill’s 2-1 win in the jayvee game. Brendan Moorer accounted for Hampshire’s goal.
Fort Hill has its home opener on Wednesday against Bishop Walsh at Greenway Avenue Stadium.
