The Most Fascinating of the Year
Allegany Magazine is proud to present the 20 Most Fascinating People
Who do you find fascinating?
Since 2006, we have been asking you that question and you have been answering it.
The intent of our annual “Fascinating People” edition has always been to shine a spotlight on the “heroes” of our community – those who often make a difference by lending a hand, giving their time, diving in, and representing and uplifting their community in the best possible way.
It might be safe to say that these 20 you are about to meet this year are some of our most inspiring people of the year.
DR. SEAN MCCAGH
People may know Dr. Sean McCagh as one of the physicians and owners of Western Maryland Dermatology, but what they may not know is his undying and unrelenting service to the community. It was Dr. McCagh’s involvement that started the Hooley Plunge benefit and it is his continued involvement that keeps it a success year after year.
Sean grew up in Cumberland, one of nine children, and graduated from Bishop Walsh High School in 1979. He received his bachelor of science degree from Mount St. Mary’s College and graduated from Georgetown University Medical School in 1992. After finishing his dermatology residency at West Virginia University Medical Center, he returned to Cumberland to set up his practice at Western Maryland Dermatology – McCagh, Roberts & Herring. His wife, Terri, is an infant and toddler physical therapist who works closely with The Children’s League. The Hooley Plunge was the brainchild of Dr. McCagh and he has served as its chairman since its inception. Going into its 15th year this year, the Hooley Plunge is expected to reach a cumulative total of $1 million this March. The plunge raises money for the Special Olympics of Allegany County and other local programs for the developmentally disabled.
