The Most Fascinating of the Year

Allegany Magazine is proud to present the 20 Most Fascinating People

Who do you find fascinating?

Since 2006, we have been asking you that question and you have been answering it.

The intent of our annual “Fascinating People” edition has always been to shine a spotlight on the “heroes” of our community – those who often make a difference by lending a hand, giving their time, diving in, and representing and uplifting their community in the best possible way.

It might be safe to say that these 20 you are about to meet this year are some of our most inspiring people of the year.

Beth Hilliker could very well be the best example of a human butterfly. Ten years ago, she was working at CBIZ in Cumberland when a higher purpose and calling came into her life. The 1986 Allegany High School graduate returned to college, studying massage therapy at Allegany College of Maryland. Now, not only is Beth a massage therapist for Nemacolin Woodlands Resort she also is an adjunct instructor of massage therapy at the very college where she earned her training and her degree. Beth is also a very talented artist who – when she is not assisting clients and students – often teaches and hosts themed “paint and sip” painting parties around the area. She has brought out the artist in many novices with events at the Cumberland Theatre, Gilchrist Gallery, Morningstar Stables, and Allegany Arts Council, among other venues. Beth is also an avid photographer whose work has appeared a few times in Allegany Magazine. Ms. Hilliker is proof that life begins at any age and re-invention can be invigorating.
