POCAHONTAS, Pa. - A 38-year-old Somerset County man was severely injured Tuesday when his vehicle traveled out of control on snow-covered Greenville Road and then struck a large tree, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Nicholas J. Scarmack Jr. of Berlin was taken to Cumberland Memorial Hospital by Frostburg Area Ambulance following the 9:50 p.m. incident that occurred on state Route 546 north of the Pennsylvania-Maryland line, police said.

Trooper Jeffrey C. Flowers of the Somerset barrack reported Scarmack sustained severe injuries. No information was available from the hospital concerning Scarmack's medical condition.

Salisbury Ambulance and Frostburg and Eastern Garrett volunteer fire companies also responded, according to the Garrett County Public Safety Emergency Management.
