CUMBERLAND — The Allegany High School Marching Band placed first overall out of nine open class bands and first place out of three Group 2 open bands at the Queen Anne High School Marching Band Competition in Centreville.

Allegany won specialty awards for Best Music, Visual, Auxiliary and Percussion for its group.

The 2019 field show, “Full Circle,”  explores the circular idea that is all around — metaphorically, visually and musically. The program uses music from American composers Fisher Tull, Robert Jager and Michael Markowski as well as original music composed by Chris Kellermeyer, Mark Gauthier and Larry Jackson.

The band consists of 39 playing members and 25 auxiliary members and is led by Drum Major Josey Zenger, Battery Percussion Leader Jackson Hendershot and Pit Percussion Leader Nathan Ashby.

The band is under the direction of Larry T. Jackson. Staff includes Color Guard Director and Designer Matt Stoops; Guard Tech Assistants Timmy Growden and Whitney Cowgill; Drill Design, Jon Louthian; Music Caption Head, Chris Kellermeyer; Percussion Caption Head, Mark Gauthier; Percussion Tech Assistant, Garrett Spence; and Marching Caption Head, Reid Smith.

The next competition for the Allegany Marching Band will be its own show, the 23rd annual Preview of Champions, Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at Greenway Avenue Stadium.
