Bountiful Blessings open this week
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will be open for a drive-thru Bountiful Blessings on Oct. 14 from 4 to 5 p.m. Bags will be prepackaged with core items only.
Participants should bring a photo ID. Bountiful Blessings meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
Garrett schools closed Friday
Garrett County Public Schools and central office locations will be closed Oct. 15 due to a number of requests for various types of leave by school system employees that day.
Donate pet food to pay off fines
All branches of the Allegany County Library System will accept pet food donations in exchange for library fines Oct. 21 to benefit the Allegany County Animal Shelter. LaVale Library is still closed for renovations.
Library staff will waive $1 for each pound of food or each can of food donated. Patrons can have up to $10 waived per person. Donations should be within their expiration date, undamaged and unopened.

PPG group will meet for breakfast
The PPG production and maintenance retirees will meet for breakfast Oct. 18 at 9 a.m. at Hobo’s Restaurant on Hyndman Road.

Zion Lutheran sale to benefit missions
The Zion Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, Accident, will hold a bazaar and yard sale Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The bazaar will be carry-out only with homemade sauerkraut, apple dumplings, soups and chicken and ham salads.
Cards, rugs, quilts, afghans, hats and Rada kitchen products will be available.
The yard sale will be in the church basement with proceeds to benefit local missions.
Alco band remains first in group
With a score of 89.95 and the award for Best Auxiliary, the Allegany High School Marching Band was the top scoring band among all Open Class bands at the 42nd annual Martinsburg High School Marching Band Competition. Allegany remains first among all Group 1 Open Class bands within Tournament of Bands after week four.
The band, under the direction of Larry T. Jackson, consists of 30 playing members and 16 color guard members. It is led by Drum Major Genevieve Batman, Battery Percussion Leader Noah Logsdon, Pit Percussion Leader Daniel Schneider and Winds Section Leader Anna Martz.
The next competition will be the Southern Garrett High School Marching Band competition at Northern Garrett High School on Oct. 16 at 7:15 p.m.
Allegany will perform at 7:45 p.m.
