Alco band takes high honors
The Allegany High School Marching Band traveled to Spring Mills High School in Martinsburg, W.Va., for the Tournament of Bands Region 5 Championships. The band took high honors in Group 3, with a score of 95 and specialty caption awards in Music, Visual and Auxiliary.
The Tournament of Bands conducts fall marching band competitions in 11 regions across a six-state area that includes New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia and northern Virginia. The region championship scores determine the group seeding placements for the Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships in Hershey, Pa., Oct. 28-29 and Nov. 4-5.
Allegany’s marching band will go into the Group 3 Atlantic Coast Championships Oct. 29 at Hershey Stadium as the No. 3 seed of 19 bands performing in Group 3.
Trinity church to hold bazaar
Trinity United Methodist Church, 34 Jones St., Piedmont, W.Va., will hold a Christmas bazaar Nov. 3-4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Hand-quilted items, wall hangings, pillows, wreaths, flower arrangements, live plants, crafts, homemade candy, baked goods and attic treasures will be available. Lunch will be sold.
The event is open to the public.
Delta Master meeting held
Maryland Delta Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met recently at the LaVale Library.
Janet Knisley distributed bags for the Salvation Army and reminded members to bring food to the November meeting for the Salvation Army pantry.
Sondra Cave noted that she had reserved the Cumberland Country Club for the Christmas and the Mother’s Day dinners.
Members made changes to the bylaws approving one meeting per month.
The October birthdays of Janet Knisley and Josephine Mantheiy were recognized.
Judy Davis presented a program on visual hallucinations.
The next meeting will be held Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. at the LaVale Library. Members will meet for lunch at Denny’s prior to the meeting.
