Church women prepare donations for the holidays
CUMBERLAND — The United Methodist Women of New United Methodist Church held their November meeting at the church on Frederick Street with 12 members in attendance.
President Pat Hinds along with Marlene Hammersmith and Roberta Sherman led the group in a program of gratitude centered around the biblical story of Ruth.
Members donated baskets of food for the area food bank. A cash donation was made both to the UMW In Baltimore and to the area CROP Walk.
The group decided to give welcome bags to new members and confirmands who will be joining the church.
Christmas items will be collected for the Board of Child Care Christmas Store, Samaritan’s Purse shoeboxes and red bags for the Salvation Army.
The next meeting will be a Christmas dinner Dec. 9 at the church. The Fort Hill Sentinel Sounds will provide the entertainment.
The group adjourned to a program presented by Dr. Judy Stone on her new book “Resilence,” which tells thee story of her family members during and after the Holocaust.
