FROSTBURG — Senior Mike Gitzen and juniors Allen Peake and Bryan Burke have been named to the 2007 Mid-Atlantic All-Region American Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Team.
Gitzen, an All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference First Team selection this spring, earned all-region honors after setting career highs in batting average (.383), slugging percentage (.665), runs (52), hits (64), RBIs (46) and home runs (9). He finished the season ranked second in the conference in runs scored, hits, home runs and RBIs. He is third in the conference in slugging percentage, sixth in doubles and ninth in batting average.
Peake currently ranks 16th in NCAA Division III in home runs (11), 30th in RBIs per game (1.27) and 39th in home runs per game (.23). He set the single-season school record for RBIs (57) and tied the school record for home runs. Peake was named an All-AMCC First Team honoree this spring while garnering second-team honors in each of his first two seasons. He was also named the conference’s Player of the Week once this spring (5/14).
In his first season in a Bobcat uniform, Burke earned All-AMCC First Team honors, finished second in the league in batting average (.426), total bases (103), stolen bases (27) and triples (6), set the single-season FSU record for hits in a season (66) and ranks 27th in triples and 32nd in stolen bases per game (.68) among NCAA Division III players.
The 2007 Bobcats finished the season 31-15 overall and became just the seventh team in school history to eclipse the 30-win plateau. FSU also captured its second-straight AMCC Tournament Title and made its second-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
