ERIE, Pa. — Brooke Winterling smashed 17 kills as the Frostburg State volleyball team captured its second straight Allegheny Mountian Collegiate Conference championship with a three-game sweep of regular-season champion Penn State Behrend Saturday afternoon on the Lions’ home court.

The Bobcats (29-5) defeated Behrend (22-9, 9-0) 25-15, 25-17 and 25-20 for their ninth AMCC title since the conference began in 1997. It also gives FSU an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

Along with her 17 kills, Winterling chipped in 12 digs and one block. Sarah Stephens and Chelsea Wassell had eight kills. Stephens also had six digs.

Jamie Thomas filled up the box score with eight kills, six digs, two service aces and one block for the second straight day. Brittany McVearry led the team with three service aces.

Kylie Carrington handed out 41 assists, giving her nine matches this year with 40 or more assists. Rachel Burke led the FSU squad with 16 digs.

Frostburg will play a first-round match in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. The opponent, site and time have yet to be announced.
