MCHENRY — Francis Gunn scored 21 points to help Garrett grab a 21-point win over Philadelphia in the McDonald’s Tournament played at Garrett College.

Gunn reached 21 by making six field goals, and converting on eight of his 10 free throws. Rodney Clark contributed 17 points, and J.T. Lewis was sturdy with 11 rebounds and eight points.

Terrance Taylor scored 12 points for the Lakers, while Brian Koonce and Reco Siler each had nine.

“We are the kind of team that has to have everybody play, and play as a group in order to be successful,” said Garrett Head Coach Dennis Gibson.

“We are not a big, rebounding team like we were last year, but I was happy with this game considering its only our third.”

Garrett (3-0) will square off against Potomac State today at 3 p.m. as the tournament continues.

Corey Bathia had a game-high 23 points for Philly. Malik Tappe added 12 points.

“We had a lot of guys that stepped into their roles better that we have been,” added Gibson. “It says something that we were able to do that after being off for two weeks.”
