FLINTSTONE — Gene Gary Teter, 80, of Flintstone, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2008 at his home on Warrior Mountain surrounded by his family.

Born Nov. 12, 1928 in Flintstone, he was the son of the late Jacob Simeon Teter and Mabel (Stonestreet) Teter. Mr. Teter was also preceded in death by a brother, Gary Teter; and a sister, Gale Creek.

Gene was a life-long beef cattle farmer in the Flintstone area. He also cut and hauled pulpwood with his brother for many years. Gene was a life-member of the Glendale Church of the Brethren, a member and former chairman of the Southern States Cooperative Board of Directors and member and former chairman of the Allegany County Soil Conservation Committee. He was also an active member of the Allegany County Farm Bureau.

Gene was a wonderful husband, dad and pappy. He was a kind and quiet man that did not have much to say, but when he spoke, especially about farming, his word was respected and appreciated. His daughters will remember his love of family and his work ethic and that it does not hurt anyone to pick up a few rocks out of what appears to be a perfectly good field every now and again.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary C. (Robinette) Teter; his daughters, Linda A. Custer and husband Bill, Warrior Mountain, Mary Jo Hinton and husband Bobby, Carpendale, W.Va., Carol V. Gilmore and husband Joe, Little Orleans, Jeannie K. Pyles and husband Ken, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Peggy L. Dolly and husband Mike, Flintstone and Cindy G. Norris and husband Jimmy, Ellerslie. He was the proud “Pappy” to, Anna L. Custer, Baltimore, Luke and Shelle Custer, Midland, Jeremiah and Tara Custer, Sarah and Jason Bennett, all of Warrior Mountain, Carrie Jo Goldsworthy and Rich and Jacob B. Hinton, all of Carpendale, Jack and Talia Gilmore, York, Pa., Brannon and Jackie Pyles, Harrisonburg, Va., Craig and Haley Pyles, Fort Ashby, Michael G. Dolly, Flintstone, Brian and Candi Dolly, Cresaptown, Crystal and Rick Wilkinson, Westernport, Thomas Norris, serving with the USMC in Okinawa, Japan, and Zachary J. Norris, Ellerslie; as well as his special great grandchildren who he truly enjoyed, Arin and John Custer, Kolby and Hannah Custer, Ryann, Carly and Ella Bennett, Matthew Goldsworthy, Damon Pyles, Braxton Pyles, Hayden Dolly and Ethan, Levi and Nikoa Wilkinson. Also surviving are his sisters, Angela Mallow and husband Leo and JoAnn Browning and husband Jim, all of Flintstone; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, encompassing the Teter, Stonestreet and Robinette families.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Ketterman officiating.

Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery at a later day.

The family would like to thank the WMHS Home Hospice for the caring support and assistance during Gene’s illness and to Corrine Lamm for her medical support.
