LONACONING - Justine Harvey collected a shutout to keep No. 1 Northern unbeaten after beating Westmar 2-0 in a statistically even game played Wednesday at Westmar.

The Huskies scored a goal in each half, with Adria Graham doing the honors in the first half and Sarah Voelkel getting the second half's score. Brittany Stein assisted on the first goal, while Erin Brenneman was given the assist on the second one.

Westmar actually led in shots taken (14-12) and in corner kicks (4-3). Harvey made seven saves in Northern's third shutout of the season, while Abby Rawlings made four.

Tara Goff, Annie Dawson and Nicole Nightengale each scored as Westmar won the junior varsity game 3-0. Nightengale also added an assist.

Northern (7-0-1, 6-0-1 WMIL) will play Saturday at Frankfort. Westmar (5-5-1, 3-3-1) is at Allegany on Saturday.

No. 2 Beall 2

Southern 0

OAKLAND - Second-ranked Beall scored a goal in each half in its defeat of Southern Wednesday in WMIL action.

Kierstin Stevenson scored on an assist from Corrie Ferree at the 30:10 mark of the first half. Then at the 38:15 spot in the second half, it was Shonna Ferree on an unassisted goal to place the score at 2-0.

The Mountaineers and the Rams both attempted the same number of shots, 10, while Beall held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Jenna Delaney recorded 10 saves as the keeper for Beall, while Jessica Patrella had eight for Southern.

Marlena Kelly and Clare Buckle scored for Southern in a 2-1 junior varsity win. Erin King assisted on the Buckle goal. Mandy Lehman connected on a direct goal for Beall's score.

Beall is now 8-2-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the WMIL, and will play at Bishop Walsh on Friday. Southern (4-6, 0-5) plays at Northern on Tuesday, 7 p.m.

No. 5 Fort Hill 5

CUMBERLAND - Cassie Donahue scored four consecutive goals in leading No. 5 Fort Hill to a 4-1 decision over Bishop Walsh and keep alive the Sentinels hopes of a share of the City League title.

The Spartans were the ones who struck first with just 1:38 gone. Kathleen Czapski scored unassisted to give BW a 20-minute, 1-0 lead.

For the remainder of the half the only one doing any scoring was Donahue. The junior midfielder scored three in a row to close out the opening half with all three goals being assisted by Crystal Zinn. Donahue got her fourth straight on the first goal of the second half, with Carly Drake getting the assist.

Amanda Meneghini got an assist from Tiffany Turner to push the score to 5-1 Sentinels. The goalies, Rebecca Zajdel for Fort Hill and Sharon Saku for Bishop Walsh, had two saves and three saves apiece.

The win moves Fort Hill's mark in the City to 2-1, and with a win over Allegany the Sentinels will collect a share of the league championship. Now 5-4-1, Fort Hill will host Westmar at 8 p.m. on Monday.

Alex Breeding had the only goal in BW's 1-0 win during the JV game.

The Spartans (6-9, 0-4 City) will play Beall at 4 p.m. on Friday at home.
