Seventeen felony indictments were returned by the June term of the Hardy County grand jury, which met June 9, according to the Hardy County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Felony indictments were presented by Prosecuting Attorney Lucas See.

Indicted were:

Roy C. Fields, Moorefield — child neglect resulting in death.

David Eugene Alexander Jr., Buchanan, Va. — driving suspended/revoked for driving under the influence third offense.

John Anthony Anderson Jr., Stanley, Va. — felonious destruction of property.

Justin Allen Brannon, High View — malicious assault, conspiracy, felonious destruction of property.

Shane Cooper, Cross Junction, Va. — conspiracy, felonious destruction of property.

Marlon Daniel Galvez, Moorefield — driving under the Influence third offense.

Michael Ray League, Romney — failure to pay child support (two counts).

Frank Ross Lenza, Franklin — obtaining a controlled substance by forgery, forgery, uttering a forged writing.

Ronald Warfield Markwood, Purgittsville — driving under the influence third offense.

James Albert Quade III, Moorefield — failure to pay child support.

James Ray Strawderman, Moorefield — failure to pay child support (two counts) .

Daniel Frederick Ward II, Cumberland (Md.) — child abuse by a parent resulting in serious injury, child abuse creating a substantial risk of serious bodily injury.

Donald Ray Whiteman, Moorefield — malicious assault, domestic battery third offense, assault, obstructing a law enforcement officer.

Donald Davis, address unknown — fraudulent scheme.

Arraignments were held June 10 in the Circuit Court of Hardy County. Suppression and pretrial hearings will be held July 3, and the court will consider pleas July 31. Jury trials for any unresolved criminal cases will be held the weeks of Aug.11 and 25.

Judge Donald Cookman will preside over all proceedings, which will take place at the Hardy County Courthouse, 204 Washington St., Moorefield. All hearings are open to the public.
