Anti-drug, alcohol event Saturday
ROMNEY, W.Va. — The Fifth Annual Drug and Alcohol Luau will be held Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Romney City Pool. The luau is free for youth in middle and high school.
Swimming, music, “mock”tails and much more will be offered with demonstrations about the effects and consequences of alcohol and drug usage. Adult volunteers are also needed to assist with the event.
South End traffic pattern changes
CUMBERLAND — Traffic patterns in the Virginia Avenue and Industrial Boulevard area will be disrupted today from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow Shaffer Construction Co. to complete some of its work, according to the Cumberland Engineering Department.
This road closure will affect traffic heading North on Virginia Avenue between East and West Industrial Boulevard. Traffic from under the underpass must turn right onto Industrial Boulevard, then make a left onto Grand Avenue as an alternate route to westbound Industrial Boulevard back to Virginia Avenue. Detour signs will be in place.
Residents are asked to use extreme caution in the affected area. All questions or concerns in this matter should be directed to Ron Shaffer at (301) 777-7177.
Frostburg food drive Saturday
FROSTBURG — The Frostburg Lions Club will hold a food drive Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hotel Gunter.
Donations of nonperishable food items and cash will benefit the Frostburg Food Pantry.
Army Corps waives day-use fees
CUMBERLAND — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will waive all day-use fees from Aug. 1 to 9 at its more than 2,400 recreation sites nationwide, including Jennings Randolph and the Youghiogheny lakes.
The waiver applies to fees collected at boat launches and swimming beach facilities. Fees for camping and camping-related services and specialized facilities or special events will not be waived.
