LONACONING - John Johnson Jr., 77, of Lonaconing, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland, where he had been a patient since Sept. 5, 2006.

Born June 11, 1929, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late John Johnson and Ida May (Ternent) Johnson.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Onis; and three sisters, Mary, Edna and Alice.

He was a member of the Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lonaconing, and attended Georges Creek Adult Day Care. He was a graduate of Central High School in 1947 and served in the 4th Mash Army Unit in Germany from 1951 to 1953. He was a carpenter and worked at Marshall Lumber Co. from 1947 to 1951. He retired from Westvaco Pulp and Paper Co. in 1995 after 28 years in the store room.

He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved the Lord with all his heart.

He is survived by his loving children, Joyce Wilson and husband Gary, Lonaconing, Carol Brashear and husband Roger, Meyerstown, Pa., Larry Johnson and wife Donna, Cumberland, Karen Gordon and husband John, Frostburg, Melanie Cole and husband Brett, Cresaptown, and loving mother, Doris Tomlinson, Finzel, (wife of 32 years); 16 grandchildren, Mandy, Heidi, Adam, Justin, Alyssa, Jackie, Katie, Kristan, Clinton, Leigh Anne, Joshua, Karis, Emma, Jonathan, Austin and Brayden; one great-granddaughter, Laci; one sister, Pearl Alexander, Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland; and two brothers, Elmer Johnson, Frostburg, and Curtis Johnson, Gilmore.

Family and friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., (eichhorn-mckenziefh.com) Lonaconing, on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lonaconing, on Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be held at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Adam, Justin, and Clinton and Stan Johnson, Dennis Johnson and Gary Wilson.

After a long journey struggling with many health issues he maintained strength and courage and a strong faith in God. He was a witness of God's love through his caring and sharing spirit. Thanks to all who prayed for and administered loving care during this past year.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord, forever.
