Including contributions from the Allegany County Board of Education and the county commissioners, more than $1.8 million has been allocated to the Mountain Ridge Stadium project.

“To date, the Mountain Ridge Stadium Committee has raised $434,000 in pledges and collections,” said Mia Perlozzo, public relations specialist for the board. “That figure includes the $21,000 that was raised at this year’s Miner’s Blast fundraiser.”

The board has designated $1 million to the project, and the commissioners have agreed to contribute $400,000 in state Program Open Space funds to the stadium, according to Perlozzo.

The total amount needed for the stadium is approximately $3.5 million.

So far, the home side bleachers, the football field, stadium lighting and the track have been completed.

“The visitor side bleachers are being designed,” said Vince Montana, director of facilities. “We’re looking at the final drawings.”

Construction of the field house has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of September, according to Montana. The field house building will include locker rooms, public rest rooms and concession area.

Items yet to be completed are the building that will house the visitor side rest rooms, concessions and main ticket gate; parking area; softball field; and renovation of the tennis courts.

The remaining items will be completed as funding permits, according to Montana.
