CUMBERLAND — Dr. James Poland and Dr. Jeffrey Poland of Lifetime Eyecare Center recently announced the addition of a new optometrist, Dr. Linda S. Haidar.

Haidar provides a full range of optometric services, including vision and eye health examinations for patients of all ages; eyeglass and contact lens services; diagnosis of eye diseases including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy; and treatment of minor eye illnesses and injuries.

Her areas of special professional interest are pediatric eye care and vision therapy to insure students use their eyes efficiently and comfortably for schoolwork and sports. In addition, she is experienced in prescribing low vision devices for senior patients and others with reduced vision.

“We are extremely pleased Dr. Haidar has joined our team,” said Jeffrey Poland. “She has an outstanding reputation for clinical excellence and compassionate care of her patients. We know our patients will enjoy getting to know Dr. Haidar as much as we have, and we are excited to welcome such a dynamic young professional to the Cumberland area.”

A native of Southern California, Haidar is a graduate of University of California Irvine with a bachelor of science degree in biological sciences and Southern California College of Optometry with a doctor of optometry degree. She received additional professional training through internships at facilities including the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, the Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles, and the Department of Rehabilitation, Las Vegas.

Haidar participated in a number of research projects during her graduate and undergraduate studies. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Maryland Optometric Association, the American Academy of Optometry, the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, and the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists.

In summer 2009, she married local physician Dr. Ziad Haidar and relocated to the Cumberland. Ziad Haidar is an obstetrician/gynecologist at the Tri-State Women’s Health Center. In their spare time, the Haidars enjoy traveling, theater and musicals, and outdoor activities such as biking and hiking.

One of the longest established optometric practices in the United States, Lifetime Eyecare Center was founded in 1912 by Dr. Walter Jeffries who began fitting and repairing eyeglasses in the family jewelry business in Frostburg.

Today’s Lifetime Eyecare Center at 2 Frederick St. is equipped with high-tech instruments including the Optomap Retinal Exam and the Zeiss GDX retinal nerve fiber layer analyzer to assure patients of the most thorough eye exam possible. All exams include detailed testing for eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts as well as a complete visual analysis to insure that eyes are functioning at peak performance for work, school and play.

Lifetime features a large eyeglass dispensary with a large selection of eyewear and lens products. The doctors are accepting new patients and participate in most routine vision and medical insurance plans.
