MCHENRY - As an enduring partner of the 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, Wisp Resort was presented with the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Flag on Monday, which is being displayed for a week. The flag will remain in Maryland through the completion of the 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, which will be held at Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI) September 17-21, 2014.

“Wisp Resort is honored to be a partner of Deep Creek 2014, said Jerry Geisler, Wisp Resort general manager It’s been exciting to be a part of this event from the inception and we look forward to the execution of this event. Deep Creek 2014 has proven that a community that works together can truly make a large impact. It is our hope that all visitors and residents, young and old embrace this event and welcome the world!”

Wisp Resort has the honor of displaying the flag that was passed to Joe Jacobi, CEO of the USA Canoe/Kayak Association and Todd Copley, executive director of Deep Creek 2014, the event production company and host organization for the World Championships, during the closing ceremonies at the 2013 World Championships in Prague. The first and only time the ICF flag was flown over a venue in the United States was 25 years ago in 1989 on the banks of the Savage River.

“This is an amazing honor to be able to have this flag fly for only the second time in the United States and both times were here in Garrett County,” said Copley. “It’s an honor for our county, the facility, and mostly, the people of Garrett County. We made the decision to fly this flag proudly by sharing it for six weeks with our Enduring Partners.”
