FROSTBURG — Frostburg Athletics, a 24-hour fitness center that will offer cardio equipment, free weights and group classes, will open in Frostburg Plaza early next year.

The fitness center is owned by Tyrone Mayer Sr., who has owned similar centers for the past 10 years. It will be located next to Roses Discount Stores and occupy a 10,000-square-foot space.

“When it comes to Frostburg, we immediately identified fitness as a missing category,” said Donald Cafiero, CEO of Pennmark Management, which acquired the plaza last year. “Once we began talking to Tyrone, we saw his vision and knew this was the perfect fit.”

The facility will be geared toward overall health, fitness and athletic training, Tyrone said.

“I really like the town; I drove around and knew this was the place for me,” Tyrone said. “I wanted a health club that offers everything fitness where you can get personal training and professional instructors. The facility plans on performing food drives, blood drives and community yard sales to name a few as part of our commitment to give back to the local community.”

A grand opening for the facility will be announced at a later date.
