CUMBERLAND — Bishop Walsh student Sydney Bearinger was selected as this year’s Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Ambassador for the sophomore class. She will represent BW at the HOBY Seminar at Towson University from June 11-14.
Bearinger, an honors student, is a member of the mock trial team, the Public Address Club, the International Club, Pep Band and Student Council. She has participated in Spartan Theatre, has a 4.017 GPA and is a member of the varsity basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis and cheerleading teams.
Bearinger helps coach the eighth grade volleyball team, makes lunches for St. Mary’s Lunch Box Program, is a team member at Chick-fil-A and the local 4-H Food Team.
Each high school in Maryland selects one sophomore to attend the prestigious four-day seminar, which includes panel discussions on topics such as entrepreneurship, diversity, education, volunteerism, community service and the media. A major focus of the seminar is practicing and enhancing the student’s leadership skills.
Bearinger is the daughter of Heather and Jason Bearinger of Cumberland.
