CRESAPTOWN — Calvary Christian Academy recently welcomed four new staff members to its team for the 2021-22 school year and made a few other in-house staff adjustments.
Mary Jane Brenneman joins the staff part-time as the elementary music teacher, working with kindergarten through fifth-grade students. Brenneman has a background in music, having played piano since age 9. She attended West Virginia University for one year.
“I want to teach (students) about the importance of music — why God created it, and how it will help them all their lives,” she said of her role at CCA.
Brenneman and her husband reside in Grantsville and attend Calvary Baptist Church in Cresaptown. Their daughter is a kindergartner at CCA.
Christine Gilbert joins the staff as the high school English and Spanish teacher. A graduate of Frostburg State University, she earned a bachelor of arts in foreign languages and literature, with concentrations in Spanish and secondary education, and a minor in math and theatrical studies.
Gilbert previously served as a day care supervisor at CCA (2019-2020). “I’m excited to see some of the students I’ve had before, and excited to see what God has in store for me,” she said.
Gilbert lives in Frostburg and attends Calvary Baptist in Cresaptown. She also serves as an active firefighter with the Bowling Green and Cresaptown fire departments.
Mallery Latgis joins the staff part-time as an aide in fourth grade. A graduate of Frostburg State University, she earned a bachelor’s in biology. She previously served as the science teacher for a homeschool co-op. She and her family reside in LaVale and attend Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cumberland. Two of their four children attend CCA.
Wanetta Nicely was reassigned fulltime as the primary fourth grade teacher. She joined the staff parttime as the elementary music teacher in 2018. Nicely’s daughter is in sixth grade at CCA. She and her family reside in Keyser, West Virginia.
Emily Howsare, a 2016 graduate of Calvary, is serving as a second grade aide for her second consecutive year. Howsare joined the CCA staff in 2018 as a preschool aide.
Moriah Peters joins the staff parttime as an aide in first grade. Peters was a student at CCA and graduated in 2015. She attends Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cumberland.
“We are so thankful for each new staff member coming to join our ministry,” School Administrator Daniel Thompson said of the additions. “This year is off to a great start, and each new staff member has a passion for our students. Let them know how welcome they are to the Calvary family.”
Calvary Christian Academy is in its 49th year of offering a quality, Christ-centered education to the tri-state community.
CCA offers preschool for 3- and 4-year-old children, a full-day kindergarten, grades 1 through 12, and a home-school program. A satellite campus of CCA is operating in Garrett County.
In addition, CCA has a full-time day care and learning center for 2-year-olds and up that is licensed by the Maryland Department of Child Care. Day care is offered Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
