CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Fire Department responded to 597 incidents in the month of May, an average of 19 calls per day. The calls included 470 for ambulances, including 15 outside the city. 

Fire and ambulance units responded to one building fire, three vehicle fires and 10 minor fires. The department also responded to 12 vehicle accidents, four extrication incidents, three hazardous conditions incidents, four hazardous material incidents, five incidents where lines were down, five trees or limbs down and one electrical short, according to the summary provided by Chief Donnie Dunn.    

Cumberland’s ambulance was alerted to assist Bowman’s Addition six times, Ridgeley four times, Cresaptown twice, District 16, Fort Ashby and Short Gap once each.

The city received assistance from Cresaptown four times, Bowman’s Addition, LaVale, Corriganville and District 16 once when all of Cumberland’s ambulances were on other incidents.
