KEYSER, W.Va. —  The first dog show of 2018 at Piney Valley Nursing Center attracted 11 canine cuties of all sizes.

“Our facility regularly receives four-legged visitors bringing smiles and joy to our residents and staff members,” said Leona McTaggart, coordinator of Mardi Growl. “Our residents really enjoy engaging with the pups and it’s amazing to see how big a smile can get when someone introduces a furry friend to them.”

Judging the competition were Kelly Miller, publisher with Gatehouse Media, and Connie Moore, social worker at WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital. The coveted Best in Show award went to Sammie Pete, a 1 1/2 -year-old yellow Labrador retriever owned by Clarice Everett of Fort Ashby.

Other winning pups were Best Tail Wag, Miguel, owned by Donnie Miller; King of the Party, Cain, owned by Amanda and Emily Loy; Cutest, Brownie, owned by Rose Knotts;  Most Talented, Thea Sonel-Maria, owned by Tammy Trenter; Best Dressed, Sparky, owned by Glenn Riggleman and Sandy Ryan; Best Kisser, two years in a row, Daisy, owned by Billy Jo Turner; Miss “N”Awlins, Eunice, owned by Leona and Michael Chapman; Best Bar Award, Zoey, owned by Liz and Michelle Durst; People’s Choice, Ruby, owned by Turner; and Diva Dog, Harlee Jo, owned by Shawna Lewis.

Master of ceremonies for the event was Sassi, a Bichon Frise and poodle mix, and Honorary Guest Dog was Jose Iglesias Miller, a 10-month-old blue merle Chihuahua.
