CUMBERLAND — A recent traffic stop on Maryland Avenue for an alleged seat belt violation led to drug charges against the driver, Cumberland Police said.
Joseph Davis Jr., 62, city, was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia following the stop in the 600 block.
Davis was charged Monday by summons and released pending trial in district court.
A K-9 scan of the vehicle during the stop reportedly prompted a positive alert for the presence of illegal narcotics.
A search then led to discovery of two packets of heroin inside a cigarette pack in the defendant's sock, police said.
