WASHINGTON (AP) — Crime is down across the Washington region according to a new report by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.

The report said crime fell 8 percent last year in the District, suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia, led by drops in violent crime. Homicides fell 22.6 percent, rapes were down 7.8 percent and robberies dropped 7.3 percent, according to the report.

Maryland’s D.C. suburbs saw the greatest drop with crime off 11 percent, while the district saw crime drop 6.2 percent and Northern Virginia reported a 4 percent decrease.
