Cumberland man charged in alleged robbery near playground

CUMBERLAND — A 19-year-old city man remained jailed without bond Tuesday after he was arrested on charges stemming from an alleged recent robbery and assault in Jane Frazier Village, according to Cumberland Police.

Brandon Harley Williams, 19, was charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft in an arrest warrant.

Following appearance before a district court commissioner, Williams was ordered held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center, pending bond review by a district court judge.

Police said the victim alleged he was assaulted July 12 by several men near the playground. His backpack containing various electronic items was stolen from him at that time, police said.
