Cumberland man charged with killing cat

CUMBERLAND — A city man was charged Friday with numerous animal cruelty charges after Cumberland Police said he stole a cat from an Altamont Terrace yard and later killed it.

Frederick Earl Bolinger, 35, was being held without bond Saturday at the Allegany County Detention Center on charges of aggravated cruelty to an animal, animal cruelty to cause harm, animal cruelty, theft from $100 to $1,500, malicious destruction of property and disorderly conduct.

Police located the animal in a trash can in the Park Street area after witnesses reported seeing Bolinger discard it. The cat's owner told officers Bolinger reached over a fence and took the cat from her yard. She gave chase and reportedly observed Bolinger kill the cat by breaking its neck. He then continued along Park Street where threw the cat in the garbage can, police said.
