Driver dies in U.S. 219 crash

ACCIDENT — One person was killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 219 in Garrett County, Maryland State Police said.

A Chevrolet Cruze operated by the unidentified victim was traveling northbound near Aiken Miller Road when it crossed the center line and struck a tractor-trailer head-on, ejecting the driver, police said.

Troopers aren't releasing the victim's name pending notification of family members.

The tractor-trailer was driven by Gary Suder, 39, of Bedford, Pennsylvania. He was not injured, police said.

U.S. 219 was closed during the investigation and traffic was detoured around the scene.

Accident volunteer firefighters and Northern Garrett Rescue Squad responded to the 9:54 a.m. crash.

State Highway Administration, the Maryland State Police Crash Team and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division also responded.
