Fatal accident reported on Savage River Road

Emergency units responded to a fatal accident on Savage River Road just after 7 a.m. Monday.

BLOOMINGTON — A fatal vehicle accident on Savage River Road was discovered Monday by a passerby, according to the Garrett County 911 emergency center.

The vehicle was reportedly on its top in the river and the victim was ejected. The accident occurred near the intersection of Spring Lick Road.  

Units remained at the scene just before 9 a.m. following a 911 call to the Garrett County emergency center at 7:12 a.m. 

Tri-Towns ambulance and Bloomington and Barton volunteer fire departments also responded to the scene.

The Garrett County Sheriff's Office is investigating the the crash. 

Further details were not immediately available.

It was the second fatal accident in two days in Garrett County.

Late Saturday, one person was killed when a 2017 Ford Focus traveled off U.S. Route 219 in Accident and then struck a tree before erupting into flames, according to Maryland State Police. The identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed.
