First responders, helicopter crew rescue injured hiker

FLINTSTONE — A Maryland State Police helicopter crew assisted first responders from Allegany County on Friday with the rescue of an injured hiker in Green Ridge State Forest.

The rescue, which occurred about 4:20 p.m., came after the unidentified male victim had been in the forest for several hours, said Lt. Todd Bowman, public information officer for the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services.

The Allegany County Department of Emergency Services and Flintstone and Bowman’s Addition volunteer fire departments assisted at the scene, as did the Department of Natural Resources.

Trooper 3, a medevac helicopter based in Frederick, performed the operation, lifting the victim from a steep ravine, Bowman said.

The victim was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Center for evaluation.
