FOUNTAIN, W.Va. — A Fountain area family was left homeless early Wednesday after fire swept through their residence in the 7200 block of Fort Ashby Road. No injuries were reported.
The fire operation was directed by the Fountain Volunteer Fire Department following alert shortly after 2 a.m.
The occupants, reportedly a family of five, were able to escape the fire without incident, according to fire officials. The victims were reportedly being assisted by family members.
The cause had not been determined, although there were indications that the blaze possibly began as a flue fire that extended to the attic of the single-story property located in the vicinity of the West Virginia State Police barracks on state Route 46, according to first responders.
Up to 40 volunteer firefighters from volunteer companies in Mineral, Hampshire and Allegany counties responded.
