CRESAPTOWN — A 24-year-old inmate of the Western Correctional Institution suffered stab puncture wounds early Friday, according to the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
The wounded inmate was taken to the medical unit of the facility where he was treated by in-house nurses for injuries that were said to be non-life threatening.
He was found injured at about 4 a.m. in the housing tier by a correctional officer.
A DPSCS spokesman said the injured inmate is serving a 35-year sentence for second-degree child sexual abuse. He reportedly refused to provide a statement to officials about the incident.
An investigation is continuing by the Internal Investigation Division, the spokesman said.
