Tractor-trailer loses load on interstate

Traffic moves slowly Sunday afternoon on Interstate 68 in Cumberland after a tractor-trailer traveling west lost its cargo at Beall Street, Exit 43A. Cumberland Police said two of the three interstate lanes would likely be closed until Monday afternoon after the 80,000 pound steel object caused extensive damage to the highway. The Maryland Department of Transportation was expected to work throughout the night to make repairs. It was unclear if there were injuries or other vehicles damaged by the 1:30 p.m. accident.

CUMBERLAND — Two lanes of Interstate 68 remained closed at Beall Street Monday morning after the highway was significantly damaged when a tractor-trailer lost its cargo Sunday afternoon.

The 80,000 pound steel object that fell from the truck was removed about four hours after the 1:05 p.m. accident, but roadway repairs were expected to continue through Monday afternoon.
