CUMBERLAND — A city man was jailed Saturday after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at a Frederick Street residence.

Mark Henry Cosner, 47, cut the woman on her hands and legs and drug her around by the hair during an altercation that turned violent, according to police.

Cosner reportedly told police the woman's injuries were self-inflicted, but witnesses collaborated her story. He also gave officers a false name, police said.

He was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, obstructing and hindering and providing a false name.

Cosner was being held without bond Sunday at the Allegany County Detention Center.

The extent of the woman's injuries were unknown.
