KEYSER, W.Va. — Mineral County residents should not be alarmed if they see white vehicles from the assessor’s office in their neighborhoods.
“You will be seeing the appraisers of the Mineral County Assessor’s Office out in the county doing routine visits,” said Assessor Jill Cosner in a press release.
“They drive either a white Jeep Liberty or a white Ford Expedition with Mineral County Assessor on the side of the vehicles,” she said.
The vehicles also bear a red county license tag.
Cosner warned residents not to be fooled by anyone else claiming to be from the assessor’s office.
“We have been informed by the Marshall County assessor that in their county, two men with clipboards claiming to be from the Marshall County Assessor’s Office have been visiting homes and demanding entry,” Cosner said.
Those men were traveling in a red or maroon van.
Cosner said no one from the assessor’s office will ask for or demand entry into a home.
“We want the citizens of Mineral County to be aware of this situation,” she said. “We hope that this does not happen in our county, but we should always need to be aware.”
