Body found under interstate bridge

A Cumberland Police Department cruiser sits on the Monroe Street bridge after a body was found under it Wednesday morning.

CUMBERLAND — A man found dead along Interstate 68 near the Willowbrook Road exit early Wednesday likely committed suicide, Cumberland Police said.

Police described the victim as a white, 38-year-old man who resided in the Cumberland area, and said his name would not be released.

"The death appears to be a deliberate act of his own with no foul play suspected,” read a news release.

Police said the body was found about 7 a.m. by a motorist driving on the interstate. It was located in a grassy area under the Monroe Street bridge, which passes over the interstate.

In addition to city police, the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit, Maryland State Police Crime Lab personnel and Cumberland Fire Department responded.
