Person struck by train in Garrett County

GORMAN —A person struck by a CSX train late Sunday afternoon was flown to an area hospital by Maryland State Police helicopter, according to the Garrett County 911 emergency center.

The incident occurred in the 9000 block of George Washington Highway at about 3 p.m., prompting alert of Gorman and Oakland volunteer fire departments, Southern Rescue Squad and Trooper 5 helicopter.

Firefighters conducted a river crossing rescue with use of a horizontal hoist to transport the patient by stokes basket across the North Branch of the Potomac River. The patient was then flown to an area hospital by the medevac helicopter, according to the emergency center.
