WESTERNPORT — A 53-year-old West Virginia woman was injured Thursday night when she slipped from a float during the Tri-Towns Christmas Parade and became briefly pinned beneath the float trailer, according to the Allegany County Sheriff's Office.
Brenda L. Karalewitz, of Piedmont, was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
The accident occurred at about 7:45 p.m. when Karalewitz slipped as she was standing on the float trailer. The trailer caught the victim's foot and leg, pulling her down to the pavement and pinning her beneath the trailer, police said.
Witnesses of the mishap reacted quickly and assisted at the scene until the arrival of Westernport fire and rescue units, according to the sheriff's office.
The annual parade starts in Piedmont, West Virginia, travels across the Westernport bridge and up Main Street, ending at Roderick Furniture Store.
