Police seek Carpendale arson suspects

Fire set in this abandoned building on CSX property Tuesday in Carpendale was intentionally set, police say.

CARPENDALE, W.Va. — A fire Tuesday evening in an abandoned building on CSX Transportation property in Carpendale was intentionally set and two suspects are being sought, Ridgeley Police Chief Jake Ryan said.

The fire was discovered about 6:30 p.m. and controlled by two citizens until the arrival of the Ridgeley and Bowling Green volunteer fire departments.

In a Facebook post, Ryan said aerosol cans, tires and other debris were set on fire on the second floor of the building.

The suspects were described as two teen boys with long hair and one was riding a yellow BMX-style bike. Ryan said they were seen leaving the area shortly after the fire started.
