Thieves rob Frederick Street Pit N Go

CUMBERLAND — Police are searching for two suspects who robbed Pit N Go in Cumberland late Wednesday, the second straight day a city convenience store has been robbed.

Cumberland Police said officers were called to the Frederick Street store about 10:20 p.m., where two people demanded money from a store clerk before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No weapon was displayed, police said, and a description of the suspects was not released. Police radio broadcasts late Wednesday indicated a male and female were involved in the incident.

The suspects were not found during a search of the area by city and state police, Allegany County Sheriff's Office deputies and the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit.

Early Tuesday, two people robbed the Circle K store in South Cumberland at gunpoint.

Officers were called to the Oldtown Road store about 12:45 a.m., where two suspects reportedly displayed a handgun to the lone clerk on duty.

The suspects in that incident, described as black males in their 20s or 30s, demanded miscellaneous items from behind the counter, including an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. They fled the store on foot and possibly left in a dark-colored SUV or Jeep, police said. 

No one was injured in either robbery, police said.
