CUMBERLAND — Two inmates of the Western Correctional Institution were injured during a Monday altercation.
The incident occurred at 2:30 p.m. in the lobby area of a housing unit, according to Mark Vernarelli, spokesman for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
Both inmates reportedly suffered cuts during the incident that ended when correctional offices intervened. Medical personnel responded and determined both inmates required outside medical treatment, Vernarelli said. They were taken to UPMC Western Maryland.
Further details about their conditions and the weapons used in the incident were not available.
No correctional officers were injured.
