RANGER, W.Va. (AP) — A Lincoln County man shot who barricaded himself in his home shot and wounded a West Virginia State Police trooper during a 10-hour standoff before being fatally shot by police.
Media outlets report 60-year-old Jesse Roger Stacy was shot by police early Saturday in Ranger.
A state police news release says troopers from several detachments responded to a 911 call Friday night about someone shooting near homes along state Route 10. Stacy refused to surrender and fired shots at officers, striking one of them and killing a K-9 unit dog. State police didn’t name the officer but said he didn’t have life-threatening injuries.
The release says police returned fire and killed Stacy.
The home caught fire during the standoff and the cause is under investigation.
