Husband arrested in Michigan Avenue child abuse investigation

Cheryl Denise Pilcher

CUMBERLAND — A city woman remained jailed Sunday as Cumberland Police and Department of Social Services personnel continued to investigate abuse allegations that resulted in five children being removed from a Michigan Avenue home on Saturday.

Police said Cheryl Denise Pilcher was charged with two counts each of second-degree child abuse by custodian, first-degree assault and second-degree assault. She was being held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.

Police said all the children were interviewed as part of the investigation and some had visible injuries. They all were taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center as a precaution, police said.
