CLARYSVILLE — A man jumped to his death from the Clarysville Bridge Friday night as police stopped to check his vehicle that was reported as disabled on the Interstate 68 span, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office said.

Police scanner broadcasts indicated the man was sitting on the hood of the vehicle just before he jumped.

First responders found him lying on Vale Summit Road about 8:15 p.m.

Maryland State Police also responded along with Frostburg and Midland firefighters.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation was turned over to the Combined County Criminal Investigation Unit.

Vale Summit Road was closed for about three hours.
