CUMBERLAND — The Maryland Theatre Arts Company, a local nonprofit children’s theater group that has been producing children’s shows in the area for more than 20 years, will hold auditions and sign-ups for its September production of “Dragon Tale” July 22 from 6 to 7 p.m. at LaVale United Methodist Church, 565 National Highway, in the basement fellowship hall.
The musical production will be staged at the Cumberland Theatre Sept. 13-15. Rehearsals will be held on Monday evenings, also at the church. There may also be occasional extra rehearsals for lead characters on Tuesday evenings as needed.
All children, ages 4 to 18, who are interested in being in the production are encouraged to audition. Those seeking leading roles will be asked to sing a song of their choice without music. Everyone else only needs to come and sign up for the production. Because MTA always includes every child who desires to be in a show, all children in the age group who come to audition will be cast.
Parents are also welcome to participate with their children if they wish. “Please feel free to participate even if there are some rehearsals you will miss due to conflicts with summer plans or vacations,” said MTA leader Joyce Conley.
The Maryland Theatre Arts Company also announced that its next production, scheduled for November, also at the Cumberland Theatre, will be the newly released “Frozen, Jr.,” a specially adapted children’s version of the hit Broadway show based on the blockbuster Disney movie.
The organization is dedicated to helping children “experience the dramatic arts for themselves in an enjoyable way, by participating in, or viewing, fun, quality productions especially for children and families” and is sponsored in part by a grant from the Allegany Arts Council.
