CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Choral Society will present its 2019 Christmas concert, “Christmas Tidings!” on Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 11 Washington St.
Judith Brown, artistic director, has chosen many familiar carols arranged for chorus and orchestra by different composers from Hungary/Austria, England and the United States — the first performed in 1801, many in the 1910s and some to the present day.
The program includes Joseph Haydn’s “Te Deum,” Christmas carol fantasies by Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughn Williams and familiar carols arranged by Dan Forrest and Mark Hayes. Carol singing with the chorus and audience will conclude the concert.
On Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m., the Choral Society will present the same concert at the Church-McKee Arts Center as part of the Highland Arts Unlimited series at West Virginia University Potomac State College in Keyser, West Virginia.
More than 50 singers will be accompanied by a professional orchestra and feature baritone soloist Christopher Mooney, who has performed nationally with many opera companies. He studied at The Juilliard School and now teaches voice at Randolph Macon College.
Tickets will be available at the door. To purchase tickets in advance, contact Dina Wilson at 301-707-2315, dwilson @timbrook.com, or Judith Brown at 240-522-5070, firstname.lastname@example.org.
